History and culture of The Armada

The Bucks County Armada was developed by Dan Kusters and Steve Marlow to offer girls and young women a better and more professional environment to train and play.  Both played baseball locally in high school (Archbishop Wood and Council Rock) and were scholarship athletes in college (Villanova and Penn State).  Their love of the game and desire to improve the baseball experience for young athletes led them to create Bucks County Baseball Academy and their academy teams, the Bucks County Generals.  The Armada is modeled after the culture of the highly successful Bucks County Generals baseball program.

The mission of the Armada is to create a culture that empowers girls and young women to be leaders.  The Armada fosters mentorship, cultivates developmental instruction, and offers guidance to softball players and their families as they move from the younger ages of the program, through high school, and into the collegiate levels.  The coaches and players of The Armada emphasize the importance of character, integrity, and respect (for the game, teammates, coaches, parents, umpires, and the opposition), and foster self-discipline, grit, and resiliency.

A better place to play
The goal of the Armada softball program is to be a better place to play competitive fastpitch softball.  We train and develop teams that play with and against some of the best players in the Mid-Atlantic region and nationally.

Play for professional, supportive coaches
We’re not looking for softball lifers to coach in our program.  Instead, we’re looking for exceptional, passionate people who are successful professionals outside of softball to learn our program and mentor our players.  Our professional coaches create a positive and supportive environment to learn and excel at the game of softball.

Every coach in our system goes through on-going training on our hitting and pitching curriculums and meets with the Directors to ensure compliance to our conduct and standards.  The experience with The Armada is consistent from our youngest to our most advanced high school teams.

Become a better player
The training and development programs utilized by Bucks County Armada are cutting-edge and have generated PROVEN results for improving our players’ performance. We utilize advanced teaching protocols and state-of-the-art technology and equipment along with randomized, outcome-based training that helps our players improve their skills and execute at a high level on the field.  These training protocols develop scalable skills that transfer from level to level.

The Armada’s off-season pitching program begins with a physical and mechanical assessment to identify areas for improvement and to create a personalized development plan. Training sessions include total body training, throwing drills, arm care work, and mechanical development to ensure a strong, healthy throwing arm.  Rapsodo is used to develop the pitching arsenal.

The Armada’s hitting program helps players to develop barrel control on all types of pitches, to move explosively, and to maximize ball exit speed. Training sessions include drills to improve the skills of hitting, mechanical enhancements, and total body training to create power and enhance stability. Rapsodo is used to collect hitting metrics including ball exit speed and launch angles.  Blast is used to track the movement of the bat through the swing.

The Armada players have two indoor facilities in which to train and practice.  The Chalfont location offers 8 tunnels for development along with a performance training center to become the best athlete you can be.   The Trevose location is a 3-tunnel facility and is used for off-season development and practice.

Guidance through the college recruiting process
We know the college recruiting process can be a little overwhelming. We employ a full-time recruiting placement director to help our players create and execute a plan to play softball in college. And more importantly, we tailor this process to ensure the schools are a proper match from an athletic AND academic perspective.

Each off-season, The Armada’s players and families start with an organizational recruiting seminar to introduce the recruiting process. It’s a program that sets The Armada’s program apart from everyone else.

Each family will meet individually with the recruiting placement director to provide step by step instructions for creating a plan. We utilize a software program that helps to match college roster openings with players’ athletic and academic criteria.

Throughout the year, we promote our players on social media, allowing college coaches to become familiar with our players.
